Wheels of Hope

Dog Talk (And Kitties Too!) (10-22-2016) #557R: Sara Baume’s extraordinary novel SPILL SIMMER FALTER WITHER has Tracie (and surely others) comparing Baume to James Joyce for creating a new language to depict the inner life of an Outsider, and his life on the run with a vicious dog he adopts and treasures; Brenda Sizer talks about her doggy-wheelchair-bound pooch, “Anderson Pooper,” who inspired her to start the Animals With Disabilities foundation (animalswithdisabilities.org); Jane Hoffman is the head of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals — which is the partner and beneficiary of the annual NY Dog Film Festival in NYC — and describes how the Wheels of Hope have made it possible to move animals out of the city shelter (NY-Animal Care & Control) to one of their 150 partner rescue groups in the city — transforming the crowded city shelter from one that had to euthanize 85% of the pets that were brought in, and turning that into a 90% adoption rate!
