Gift Bags for the Dog & Cat Festival Filmmakers

What’s in the Cat Bag?

I had the pleasure of introducing some wonderful filmmakers to the packed audience at the Village East theater for the 5th Annual NY Cat Film Festival at the Premiere on October 23rd. I wanted to make sure they got wonderful gift bags for their in-person viewing of their films. Some came from very far away! Marco Antonio Nunez came from Santiago, Chile on his first trip ever to New York City; Sarah Portelli and her co-creator Ivan Malekin flew in from Zagreb, Croatia via Malta where their film “Cats of Malta” was shot; New Yorkers Melanie Futorian and Yadid Licht were in attendance, and for the fifth time Kim Best flew in from North Carolina to see two of her films up on the big screen [and also receive the first ever Gina Zaro Visionary Award because of her contributions to the Festival every year — while saluting Gina Zaro of Dr. Elsey’s for underwriting the Festival as Founding and continuing sponsor.

The filmmakers were delighted with their cat-themed bags that had a copy of Cate Conte’s  mystery, “Gone But Not Furgotten,” a coupon for Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract litter, a cat-themed blanket or towels, and a fabulous toy assortment from Kate Benjamin’s ever-amazing design collection at Hauspanther.

What Was in the Doggy Swag Bags?

Giulia Dussolier came the way from Paris, France to see her film; the youngest director ever, 14-year-old Nathaly Orego, came from West Jordan Utah with her family; Brandon Sanchez flew in from Downy, California; Donna Guthrie, Phair Elizabeth Haldin and Deepanjali came from nearby. Kimo, the star of “Kimo & Jazz,” flew in from Utah with his husband to see the documentary about him that had just won a Sharecare Emmy award.

These folks got a special NY Dog Film Festival bag, a limited edition t-shirt,  a festival-branded dog leash, a “singing dog” toy from Canine Styles and copies of Rick Bragg’s scintillating canine memoir “The Speckled Beauty,” Margaret Rockwell’s gorgeous art book “Faithful Friends: Normal Rockwell and his Dogs,” and copies of the thriller “Chasing Justice” personally inscribed by Kathleen Donnelly.
