The French are Making Lunch from Larvae
Dog Talk (And Kitties Too!) (08-22-2021) #741: Featuring Guillaume Daoulas, Audrey Cook, and Dorothy & Harpo. Tracie talks to Guillaume Daoulas in France about the alternative protein source his company Ynsect is growing from larvae in futuristic “vertical farms” one hour outside of Paris. Dr. Audrey Cook, Chief of the Internal Medicine Department at the Veterinary College of Texas A&M University, has the rare distinction of being a member of both the U.S. and European Colleges of Internal Medicine, as well as being on the American Board of Feline Practitioners. She talks frankly with Tracie about nutrition and diabetes in cats, and how wrong the veterinary profession was back in the ’90s about the optimal diet for cats. (Hint: it should not have been dry food, although Dr. Cook says that some veterinarians still mistakenly continue to recommend it.) Dorothy calls to tell Tracie how right she is about the importance of having pet insurance, and how it impacted her when her dog Harpo had to be treated for thyroid cancer — and he’s thriving now!
