Intra-Species Research Seredipity Provides Unexpected Cures

The Expert Vet (03-27-2017) #5067: Guest Dr. Terry Beardsley is not an “expert vet” but rather a research scientist searching for remedies to human medical challenges who has managed to find dramatic cures for animals along the way. Dr. Beardsley started out looking for a cure for human AIDS, using cats that already had FIV and FeLV viruses — which serendipitously led to his finding a T-cyte treatment for those cats, which became the only way to save their lives! He discusses the serendipity of where research outcomes lead in intra-species research, since another project he conducted looking for protection for people against the avian flu, led to an accidental discovery and development of a promising treatment for osteoarthritis in dogs.
