Cats are obligate carnivores and have no need for carbohydrates in their diet – and their digestive systems are not “designed” for eating a kibble diet. Carbs can cause obesity in cats — being overweight can cause diabetes in cats — and some of the veterinary prescription foods for cats are high in carbohydrates, which continues the vicious cycle.
